Charlotte Church has been discussed ad nauseum and there have been LOTS and
LOTS of complaints whenever her name is brought up (plus, she's not an opera
singer). You missed the vitriol of about a year ago .... lucky you!

In my opinion, Vocalist largely attracts people who are interested in the
well-produced voice and the study of voice - this is not to say that everyone
on Vocalist is necessarily highly trained vocally or that those people who
are not trained are not welcome - but I think if we took a survey, we would
find the greatest percentage of current Listers to be interested in musical
theater/classical music, sacred music (of all denominations), with straight
pop music (not crossover from musical theater/classical/sacred) to be
somewhere lower on the interest scale.

I think that there is interest in discussing how Mariah produces her sound or
how Whitney's has changed through years and what has caused this change.
However, I don't think going on about someone being "awesome" is enough. You
need to qualify it - identify characteristics about the voice that you find
attractive - a clear tone, expressiveness, etc. Otherwise, yes, people will
tell you to go back to the alt.fan.backstreetboys page (or whatever).

My $0.02.
