And of course, many of us have heard the famous Fred Astaire story:
After an early screen test (I think?) the studio exec dismissed him in a memo:
"Can't sing, can't act, dances a little"
And yet, he did just fine didn't he (at another studio!)?

I read this story in Classical Singer a while back. A VERY famous and successful singer and his wife, who teaches voice, were having dinner with a very influential agent. The agent made some remark about people who waste their time and money studying even though they will never get anywhere. The wife pulled out a tape of a college-level singer and played it for the agent, who promptly decreed, "Tell him to keep his day job, because he'll never make it." The wife then identified the singer. It was her husband, back in his college days. To his credit, the agent apparently learned his lesson and has changed his attitude.
If you're determined, who knows what you can accomplish!
