Well, I took the advice of all you wonderful people who posted or email me privately, and at 41 I'm going back to singing. However, now I'm a spinto at 41, no longer a soubrette at 30, so I need ideas about repertoire. I never thought the instrument would be this size and that I'd lose my high Fs, so doing Zerbinetta's aria and the Queen of the Night just went out the window for me. What do I sing NOW?
I've been told I sound much like Montserrat Caballe (is that a compliment?) because I have a very "chocolatey" sound. My top is still short: I have trouble on a high D (sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not). Perhaps with continued singing my high Fs will come back (SHE SAYS WISTFULLY).
What can you all recommend for opera repertoire? It needs to fit my age and vocal issues (Spinto, short top).
Thanks (PS: SOmebody told me all spintos usually stop at a high D; is that true or were they just trying to make me feel better??).
