I find that to be true. Not all teachers are alike. In my case I feel better mending voices or providing a good and sound vocal technique than working with more sophisticated voices. On the other hand, there are those masters who only specialize in the final product. These teachers will not take beginners or students who are not fully trained. It's not a matter of time, let's say someone who has been training for a long while but is not vocally ready to take the stage.
There are some outstanding artists with natural voices that need little training, which could be Zajick's case. I was watching her on tv in a Pavarotti plus concert and she was outstanding. She sang the duet from Trovatore and even though she was a young woman, she could easily express Azucena's despair and tenderness in her voice. I guess the more the singer can concentrate and feel the character, the better off she/he will do. This of course, once the singer has mastered the technique, which I repeat, is not acquired through a required number of years. It all depends on the individual.
