Diane and all:

Vocology is a term and a course of study leading to a certification (I
believe) which was devised and developed by Ingo Titze at the University of
Iowa. It is intended for all who habilitates the voice such as
otolaryngologists, speech pathologists, voice teachers, vocal coaches,
theatre directors, etc. The term is an extension of the term used for in
hearing, or audiology. The vocologist habilitates the voice by provided
guidance and treatment towards healthy, efficient vocal function.

Titze's own statement of philosophy for the course includes:

A vocologist is any person who habilitates vocal behavior - a
speech-language pathologist, otolaryngologist, singing
teacher or voice coach. Vocology has evolved recently from
interrelationships between speech science, medicine, theatre
training and vocal pedagogy, and as such, is not widely taught in academic
institutions as an independent discipline. At the
present time, only The University of Iowa has a formalized curriculum in
vocology, taught as a specialty track in
speech-language pathology. Due to enrollment limitations, however, the
program can only be offered to two or three
vocology candidates per year.
