Hi: I am a music instructor and know that the photocopying process is a very controversial issue. In my personal opinion, if you have purchased the original music for a music exam or audition it is crazy to have to provide the examiner or jury with an original and also the accompanist. No one should have to purchase 2 anthologies at $40.00/ea so that their accompanist may use the book. Most accompanists are driven crazy trying to accomodate all the page turns. I truly believe that we should all purchase the music we wish to sing/perform/own but that there are exceptions where the photocopy is used for a sole purpose and then destroyed. Just my thoughts. Also, I do teach a wide variety of students and take them to the CNDA competions each year with much success. I have students studying varying levels of voice from 10 years old to senior citizens. I would much rather take a child of 10 and help them with proper breathing techniques, good clear diction, self confident performances, musical interpretation and general comprehension of musical signs and terminology than let them be mutilated in a poor choir situation or allowed to mimic the less than adequate styles of some of today's pop artists just because they were too young. I believe that if the teacher is careful regarding repertoire given and techniques applied that the child is better off working under a teacher than being left to cultivate bad habits that may cause real damage. I live in a city of approx 120,000 people and there is a real shortage of "qualified" vocal instructors. I am: Jacqueline McMahon I am partnered in business with my best friend Connie Jane.
