I'm sure it's Thomas der Reimer by Karl Loewe. Loewe was a contemporary of
Schubert, best known for his dramatic "Balladen." Many consider his setting
of Goethe's "Erlkoning" to be superior to Schubert's.

Most good music libraries will have at least one Loewe volume. At UNT we
have the complete Loewe edition.)
