I must first qualify this by saying that I too admire Sarah McLachlan
greatly, and think she is a very intelligent and pognient song writer, a
true disciple of Joni Mitchell, to be sure. I own several of her CDs, and
am known to weep when Angel is played.

But then I must say: I too don't know her range. I would, though,
question the level of "training" she recieved from watching her perform.
She has some very, very bad habits, which I originally would have accepted
as "expressive" gestures (rolling of the shoulders, tension, neck
stretching, facial contortions) although I've now decided that she's using
them to create the sound, and I would never ever allow any student ot
emulate her. A great example of this would be the "Angel" video. I have
one student who does work on popular music with me, and we've talked about
McLachlan at length, as she had many of the same habits. It's been
interesting to watch my student become more observant of her idols over
the last year. I suppose I need to get there myself with my own idols, LOL.
