Some of my finer moments.....

- Joining $$ health club figuring the dues would motivate me - just made me
feel even guiltier
- Can you say Dexatrim? (hey - I was young)
- Doing the 1000 calories a day thing, getting them from anything and
everything (one piece cake; one Diet Coke)
- Bulimia. Definitely not a great idea for a singer. I think that's
probably the only thing that really saved me.. when I realized my singing
voice was more important to me than anything, and that repeated vomiting
would ruin it for good.
- Working out a few times per week with aerobics only, hating every minute
of it, and routinely making up excuses not to exercise
- All-grain, carb-free, wholemeal-pizza-with-carrot-topping,
organic-vegetables-lovingly-grown-in-Northern-California-by-liberal-arts-gra
duates life. I think I glimpsed Nirvana, but it tasted nasty so I turned
and came home, where Aunt Jemima lives. Oh, and tried natural
childbirth at the same time.
- Slim-Fast for breakfast and lunch and "a sensible dinner". Ha.
hahahahahahaha. That lasted 5 minutes.
- Being sedentary for 6 months then waking up one morning and deciding to go
on a 6 mile combination hike-moutain climb. Discovered what it feels like
to not breathe for a minute or two.

Anyhow - I think whatever works for someone is dynamite (as you can see, who
am I to judge anything or anybody?), but for the folks out there who just
want the quick and easy answer, I'd go with some good exercise and an eating
plan that covers your nutritional needs, allows you your favorite binge food
once in a while, and is one you can stick with for, like, ever. And for
most of us, that means an eating plan that features foods you can pick up in
the regular grocery store with your children in tow, and doesn't involve any
"rules" other than common sense.

I think it was Cicero that said, "All things in moderation".... I've found
over and over again that if I follow that little gem'o'wisdom, oft quoted by
my dad, I won't go wrong.
