Jay,
Little did you know that you just asked two massive questions (at least for this list). On the humidifiers, there was a big discussion on the list in the fall which you can find by searching the home page. The long and the short of it is warm mist or cool mist with distilled water. The second question comes up weekly, so again, run a simple search.
It's good that you've recognized you need to start taking care of your voice now!
