I e-mailed Patricia privately regarding this, but maybe someone whose spent time, or lives in the Austin area, could help me:
Maybe you can help me. What do you know about the Austin area regarding classical singing opportunities? Because of a variety of personal reasons, I've been giving some serious thought to moving to Austin but need to make sure it would be the right move professionally. Of course, where I live know, in Orange County CA, there's not exactly a cornucopia of venues. I don't really have an interest in going back to school for my Graduate degree, though I understand UT is a wonderful school. At my age, the last thing I'd want to do is go to a city and have people say, "why would you move to Austin to sing?" Understand my dilemma? Now you may have only spend ten minutes in Austin but I thought perhaps going there for Graduate school would have caused you to research the music scene. Perhaps you'll get an opportunity to speak to some faculty while your there and get a feel for what's out there. Unfortunately, a great music school isn't always an indication of a rich performing environment. (see Oberlin!) Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
