Joyce,

Yes, I know exactly what you're going through.
Without using an 'h', you may want to try *imagining*
that the vocal folds are together before you sing the
vowel, without actually using a hard glottal attack.
This has worked for me, but if you have trouble
identifying this "imagined" feeling, you may want to
experiment with real glottal attacks to get used to
the feeling of closure at the onset. I hope this can
