The show was a moderate success in 1977----a musical revue called "Starting
Here, Starting Now" by Richard Maltby and David Shire (of "Baby" and "Closer
Than Ever" fame) Because it was 1977, the cast recording sounds a bit dated,
but the music itself is not.

It was originally written for a show called "The River," which may be the
flop you were thinking of. (I don't even know if that show was ever
produced--I just got that info off the liner notes of the CD for the
revue)(The CD just happened to be playing when I read your message--how's
that for weird coincidence?)

Maltby & Shire are a bit Sondheim-esque, if I may coin the term. Their songs
are usually stories, and lyrically dense. (take a look at "Crossword Puzzle"
from the same show--it's a gas) Plus, their melodies are often all over the
staff, like much of Sondheim.

Of course, after recommending "Crossword Puzzle," I re-read your question &
realized you are a man. Sorry, "Crossword" is not for you. Try "I Don't
Remember Christmas" instead.

Burned out because no one should do 12 performances
per week and still have a full-time day job.
(but both of her shows close Sunday! Ah, to sleep....)
