I did have septum surgery in Oct., 97. First, I want to say that I think
you are doing the right things by having a surgeon who understands singers.
Please also make the surgeon answer every single question you have. My
"patient education" was nil. I was told I would be back at work in 2 days.
Because of complications, it took me 2 months. This is unusual and I
believe, if I had asked more questions, gotten another opinion, it would
have worked out better. As far as singing though, I was able to sing a
short program in Dec., 97. Please understand, I think the swelling and
infection I had are unusual and I think I should have gone with my instincts
which were:
1. I do not like this doctor - he has no time to answer questions. I should
have gone somewhere else.
2. I was talked in to having the surgery performed in his "surgical suite"
in his office. I should have had it performed in a hospital with a full
staff and excellent recovery room.
I so hope this does not frighten you. I just look back on it and I could
kick myself for not being a better consumer. Good luck.
