jerry lewis doesn't do much for the voice, if anything. it was the vowel i was thinking of. most people who have a chronic difficulty, where nothing seems to work, have a tendency to stay inside their own parameters when the solution lies outside them. jerry lewis' ah is about as far out of a dark ah as you can get. 'chiarascuro' would be somewhere in between. in order to combine light and dark you have to have both. dr. tomatis (see tomatis.com) has suggested that, unless the ear knows the sound, the voice will not produce it.
