Please, what version of "Don Pasquale" would you recommend me ? I am going to study the role of Norina and I need to hear it day and night !
Thanks everyone ! Rut Jimenez Malaga (Espana) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
There are several things to consider when choosing a recording. You mentioned that you are doing Norina, so that is the obvious starting place. My favorite recording is the one on EMI Classics with Beverly Sills, who I love, even though she is not at her best vocally here. This recording has the added bonus of the divine Alfredo Kraus as Ernesto. When the 2 of them sing "tornami a dir che m'ami" you think you've died and gone to heaven!! The rest of the cast is also wonderful. La Sills is very cute playing the 'demure' little bride--makes you smile.:-)
I choose recordings by the singer who is singing my role, and it should be someone whose voice 'works' the same way mine does--this helps in making decisions about cadenzas, tempi, etc. and I get the general sound in my ear. There is apparently no recording of Joan Sutherland doing this role, unfortunately. I heard a recording of Arleen Auger doing Norina, and it was quite nice, but very unlike the way my voice works.
Hope this helps you---enjoy your wonderful Donizetti!!!
